A profession can be defined as an occupation that is based on specialized intellectual study and expertise. Let me explain this further with an example:

Imagine a person who began their education in science, opting for PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology). After completing this, they chose to pursue engineering. While engineering is heavily focused on technology and technical skills, they later decided to pursue MBA (Masters in Business Administration), which focuses on management and administration. After completing their MBA, this individual decided to work as a medical representative.

Now, you might wonder: Where is the specialization here? This person has gone through multiple educational phases and career changes without truly specializing in any one field. In the end, despite working as a medical representative, which is a good career, they are lacking true professionalism.

The Challenge of Professionalism in India

What does this example show? It highlights that in India, we have not yet reached the level of professionalism expected in management. Even in the 21st century, many people change their careers multiple times, often due to circumstances rather than genuine passion or expertise in a particular field. This lack of specialized education and professional focus results in the absence of true professionalism in management.

While this individual has made a career out of management-related roles, they still lack true professionalism because they have not specialized in a particular area of management. This is one of the primary issues in India: many people work in managerial positions without having acquired the necessary skills or knowledge to be considered professionals in the field.
